Connections Career and Safety Services Ltd. (1007 Factory ST SE in Medicine Hat) has been supplying Medicine Hat and area with an exceptional level of training programs since 1998. We believe people can be successful in their careers if they have the appropriate training, be it occupational, life skills or safety. We are committed to addressing these needs and building connections between workers and industry.

In the fall of 2012, we began offering courses in Brooks, to serve the Brooks area. We are now located at Bay 1 - 440 Aquaduct Drive.

Connections Career and Safety Services Ltd. provides high quality safety programs and training that meet or exceed industry standards throughout Alberta and Western Canada. We take pride in offering hands-on training to participants who require safety knowledge and skills to ensure safety in the workplace. Training can be arranged at our facility or yours.

Meet the Owners and Staff

Rob Kirchner - Owner

Education: OH&S Certificate - Ryerson University BA - Athabasca University MA - PGS Oilfield Specialist Certificate - Petex, University of Texas
Experience: Over 10 years in the upstream sector of the petroleum industry (field and office); over 10 years in the construction industry. Several years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety (trainer, consultant, auditor)
Roles: Rob manages day-to-day operations, instructs safety and lifeskills courses, consults with businesses regarding safety management systems, and develops e-learning programs for businesses.

Janice Kirchner - Owner

Education: BEd (English) - University of Lethbridge
Experience: Over 30 years' experience as an instructor
Roles: Instructs First Aid (Red Cross and Heart and Stroke), DDC/PDIC, Fatigue Management, Babysitter's Training, and Home Alone courses; assists with various aspects of the business, including manual development and on-line test bank development.

Lynn Konrad - Office Manager

Education:  Business Administration Diploma and Hotel Restaurant Administration Diploma
Experience: 17+ years office administration in agriculture and safety industries; several years youth program administration
Roles: Office Administration, including scheduling, invoicing, file management; instructs Babysitter's Course and Home Alone Course

Cheryl Carvell - Placement Officer and Marketing Coordinator

Roles: Assists with the application to and data entry for our Provincial Government programs in Medicine Hat and Brooks. As a Placement Officer, she supports eligible Albertans with the application and acceptance process, provides student case management and contributes to student success in work search and employment.


Claudia Locke - Brooks Office Admin & Program Assistant

Education: BAdmin Diploma and Insurance Broker Designation; NFPA Firefighter 1001 & 1002 Designations; EMR
Experience: Captain of Duchess & rural volunteer Fire Department; 5 years experience as Senior Insurance Broker
Roles: Manages Brooks office and administration of Brooks government funded programs

Caroline Collins - Instructor

Brian Reid - Instructor/Safety Training Specialist/Auditor

Education: NCSO (ACSA), OHS Certificate, HACCP Certification
Experience: 17+ years oilfield safety training/advisor on OSSA sites
Roles: Instructs Fall Protection, Confined Space, Load Securement, Fire Awareness, WHMIS; SOP development, Health and Safety Policy development; OSSA Fire Watch, Rigging and Overhead Crane, Aerial Work Platform, Norms Awareness


Allison Kirchner - Office and Program Assistant

Education: BBA, Management Major
Experience: 4+ years office assistant
Roles: Assists with the application to and file management for our Provincial Government programs in Medicine Hat and Brooks; provides general office assistance with accounts receivable and payable.
