CLASS 1 Full Training

Stage 1: Entry Program (online) $250

To register in the online Entry Program, go to driver.training.alberta.ca and follow the information provided. It is anticipated the Entry Program will take approximately 40 hours to complete. At this time, there is no option to take the Entry Program in a classroom setting; however, you are able to contact us to receive support from a licensed instructor with the online portion of your training (additional fees of up to $700 will apply).

We recommend you contact us once you have decided to register in the Entry Program so you can be placed on a wait list for the Core Program which can commence with us once you have completed the Entry Program, Air Brakes (one-day course $220 plus registry exam of $17), and your Driver’s Medical (exam fee paid to the doctor). We require documentation these three elements have been completed.

Stage 2: Core Program ($6,800)

Your driver training will consist of 60 hours with an instructor, covering the practical elements and training of the 8 modules you covered in the Entry Program. Once you have successfully completed the Class 1 knowledge exam at a registry ($17) and the skills assessments administered by an instructor, we will update your profile with TEC and arrange for your road test. Additional fees for the road test permit ($217), rental of the tractor-trailer unit ($250), and any additional training hours ($140/hr) will apply. The road tests are based on examiner availability, but we will make every effort to schedule an exam as close to your driving completion date as possible.

Successful completion of the road exam will give you a restricted Alberta Class 1 license.

Stage 3: Competence Building ($2,500)

If you would like an unrestricted Class 1 license (so you can drive across Canada and across its borders, you must complete an additional 17-25 hours of training after you have passed your Class 1 road test. This may begin immediately after acquiring your license or at any time in the future. This portion of training has some standardized elements, but the majority of the time is spent on building driving skills. There is not a second road exam after this is completed. Once the Competence Building training is completed, your profile will be updated, and you will be eligible to receive an unrestricted Class 1 license.

EXPERIENCE AND EQUIVALENCY CLASS 1

Drivers who have held an Alberta Class 3 driver’s license or the equivalent driver’s license from another Canadian jurisdiction for two (2) or more years MAY qualify to take this program. You must apply to Transportation and Economic Corridors prior to commencing the abbreviated 40-hour training program.  See application HERE.
